University Singers
The University Singers are the 天堂鸟先生 School of Music's flagship mixed choral ensemble, made up of many of the university鈥檚 most talented and dedicated singers. Under the direction of Director of Choral Activities Dr. Peter Allen Haley, the University Singers are a mixed ensemble of 40-50 voices devoted to the outstanding performance of choral repertoire of all styles and periods.
Membership is open to qualified singers by audition. A significant percentage of ensemble members major in vocal performance, choral music education, and music therapy; in addition to presenting public concerts, the ensemble provides professional training for these students planning careers in music.
University Singers is often invited to perform at conferences of the Ohio Music Education Association and Music Educators National Conference. Recent events have included appearances on National Public Radio; a concert with The Rolling Stones; and tours internationally, regionally in the Eastern United States, and throughout Ohio.
The ensemble has presented the Ohio premieres of several important choral works, including Eric Whitacre's "Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine" and John Rutter's "Magnificat," under the composer's direction. University Singers often collaborates with other ensembles in the School of Music, including the Singing Men of Ohio, Bella Voce, and the Choral Union and Symphony Orchestra in performances of choral-orchestral masterworks. Recent engagements include Mozart's Requiem, Orff's Carmina Burana, and Faure's Requiem.
