After completing her first semester as the manager of library services, Haley Shaw is turning her focus to the year ahead at OHIO Zanesville.

A proud Bobcat, Shaw graduated from 天堂鸟先生 with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in classics and anthropology before earning her master鈥檚 in library and information science from Kent State University. Her journey into library work began years ago as a student worker in the Music and Dance Library鈥攁n experience that helped her discover her passion for connecting people with knowledge and resources.

Bringing experience and enthusiasm

Shaw comes to the Zanesville campus with a background in youth services librarianship, where she focused on fostering a love of learning among young readers. Her time in that role, combined with her past work in academic libraries, gives her a unique perspective on how libraries can spark curiosity, create community and support academic growth. 

In her new position, Shaw is most excited about the opportunity to help students and faculty with research, projects, and more.

鈥淥ne big goal I have for this role is to make the Zanesville Campus Library a place people want to be,鈥� she explains. 鈥淲e serve both the 天堂鸟先生 Zanesville and Zane State College communities, and I want everyone to feel welcome here and think of the Library as a place they can come, be it to study, work on a group project, seek out help or information, or just to relax for a bit between classes.鈥�

Looking ahead

In the coming months, Shaw plans to build on the library鈥檚 existing strengths from the legacy created by past long-term library staff member Tracey Humphrey, while also implementing fresh ideas tailored to the Zanesville campus.

Shaw is very excited to be able to help students and faculty with research and other projects, provide library instruction, and continue the community and campus partnerships developed at OHIO Zanesville. She also plans to to continue and expand the Library鈥檚 reputation as a center for campus community and student life.
