Established in 2024, the Scripps Young Alumni Council has provided a vital link between young alumni and the Scripps College of Communication, fostering student engagement and offering valuable insights.

鈥淲e had excellent feedback from our inaugural cohort that will help us to craft even more engagement with our students and faculty in the coming year,鈥 said Erin Roberts, Scripps director of student development. 鈥淲e were able to really leverage the experiences and expertise of this group of connected and accomplished young alumni last year and are confident that we can positively impact even more students by growing the council and increasing opportunities for interaction.鈥

The Scripps Young Alumni Council was created to provide a platform for alumni who have graduated within the last 15 years to stay connected with the college, offer mentorship to current students, and contribute to the future of the college. The first year saw enthusiastic participation from its founding members, who brought diverse experiences and perspectives from various communication fields.

"Overall, I've really enjoyed my experience on the Young Alumni Council," said Ashleigh Mavros, BSJ '14, manager of operations excellence for global technology at McDonald's. "I think there are a lot of opportunities to build on, but for its first year, it's been enjoyable. The opportunities to connect with the Scripps Dean's Advisory Council have been great. It's something I've been starting to think would be a great opportunity one day for me, and I've enjoyed connecting with those professionals."

Throughout its first year, the council engaged in a variety of activities, including virtual meetings, networking events, and collaborative discussions with college leadership and the Dean's Advisory Council. These interactions have been instrumental in shaping future initiatives and strengthening the bond between alumni and the college.

As the Scripps Young Alumni Council moves into its second year, the college is seeking passionate and dedicated young alumni to join. New members will have the opportunity to contribute to the council's growing impact, connect with fellow alumni, and play a direct role in supporting the next generation of Scripps communicators.

While there is no membership fee for the Scripps Young Alumni Council, members will pay for their own transportation and lodging in Athens for the October and March on-campus sessions. During the in-person professional development sessions, council members will receive catered meals.

Applications for the Scripps Young Alumni Council will open on June 2 and close on July 7 at 11:59 p.m. Interested alumni who have graduated from the Scripps College of Communication within the last 15 years are encouraged to apply.
