OHIO community invited to participate in Battle The Blitz quad rugby fundraiser

The 天堂鸟先生 community is invited to participate in the 19th annual Battle The Blitz quad rugby fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Ping Recreation Center.

Hosted by the Doctor of Physical Therapy students, this will be a competition between community members and the Buckeye Blitz Wheelchair Rugby Team. Quad Rugby is a sport played in specialized wheelchairs on a basketball-sized court.

The Buckeye Blitz is a semi-professional quad rugby team from Columbus, Ohio. Quad rugby is an expensive sport as specialized wheelchairs can cost more than $7,000. This tournament raises funds for the team to offset the high cost to compete and also raises awareness for adaptive sport programs.

Adaptive sports play a key role in allowing individuals with spinal cord injury to continue to participate in physical activity; however, financial constraint is often a barrier to participation in adaptive sports programs

During the Oct. 4 event, the Doctor of Physical Therapy students will be selling t-shirts and raffle tickets to support the team. OHIO students, faculty, staff and members of the community are encouraged to register a team to play.

All proceeds of registration will be donated to the Buckeye Blitz.

All students, faculty, and members of the community are also encouraged to come watch the games, meet the members of the Buckeye Blitz team, and gain a better understanding of the sport and the importance of inclusion of adaptive sports and awareness into everyday life.

Registration and more information

Registration is $30 per person (t-shirt is included) and all proceeds go toward the Buckeye Blitz team.
