Welcome (back) to campus, Bobcats! 天堂鸟先生 Libraries is excited to share several significant updates launched over the summer.

These new resources, software and study spaces are designed to enhance academic success, research productivity and access to scholarly and cultural resources for the entire OHIO community.

From expanded access to premier news and film collections to major technological upgrades and future planning, here is a summary of what is new at University Libraries.

New York Times access now available to all OHIO community members

Effective June 1, all 天堂鸟先生 students, faculty and staff have complimentary digital access to The New York Times, including All-Access features such as Wordle, Spelling Bee, NYT Cooking and more. This initiative is part of a broader effort by University Libraries to expand access to high-quality, reliable information for all.

Academic benefits:

• Faculty may integrate New York Times articles into coursework as real-time examples.
• Students can utilize the resource for research papers, current events assignments and multimedia projects.
• Access includes curated education sections, newsletters and discipline-specific content to support teaching and learning.

To activate access the free subscription, users must register using their OHIO email credentials.

Access to The Criterion Collection: Over 650 films now available

University Libraries has expanded its digital media offerings by providing access to over 650 titles from The Criterion Collection, a renowned archive of classic, foreign and independent cinema.

Available to all OHIO students, faculty and staff, these films can be streamed for instructional use or personal enjoyment. Log in with your OHIO credentials to explore the collection. at home and stream on your TV.

New chairs and hush pods

University Libraries purchased 645 new chairs over the summer. The new chairs can be found throughout Alden on every floor except the fifth.

University Libraries also installed two hush pods over the summer to enhance privacy and group studying. The pods are located on the second floor of Alden Library and allow the OHIO community to take phone calls, participate in interviews and attend telehealth appointments.

Pods are equipped with smart ventilation, LED lighting, power plugs and USB connectivity, and soundproofing. One user shared that the hush pod was 鈥渕y favorite space to work that I鈥檝e ever experienced.鈥�

Unlimited Zotero storage now available

Researchers and students who use Zotero鈥攁 leading open-source reference and citation management tool鈥攚ill now benefit from unlimited cloud storage, courtesy of 天堂鸟先生 Libraries. Zotero stores PDFs, web snapshots and other research attachments.

Access is available as long as the user has a verified ohio.edu address associated with their Zotero account (either as primary or secondary).

Supporting Open Access publishing at OHIO

Since 2022, 天堂鸟先生 Libraries鈥攖hrough OhioLINK鈥攈as supported the publication of over 223 Open Access (OA) articles, saving faculty more than $744,000 in Article Processing Charges (APCs). OA articles in journals published by aggregators like Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, Cambridge and the Institute of Physics broaden their dissemination and deepen the impact that OHIO faculty have on scholarly discourse.

Alden Library master planning underway

天堂鸟先生 has selected firm Perkins Eastman to lead the architectural and master planning process for a major renovation of Alden Library to meet evolving academic needs. This planning phase will run from August 2025 to June 2026, culminating in phased renovation designs that prioritize flexibility, technology, and collaboration.

Planning goals:

• Support evolving student learning styles and faculty teaching practices
• Create welcoming, technology-enabled collaborative spaces
• Preserve Alden鈥檚 legacy while updating it for 21st-century academic use

Engagement from students, faculty, staff and other members of the community will guide the project. The updated design will support the University's Dynamic Strategy goals around student success and innovative learning.

A new library search experience

This summer, University Libraries completed a major upgrade to their Library Services Platform by implementing Ex Libris Alma. Alma provides a more modern, efficient, and customizable user experience while still providing access to both local and statewide resources.
