How Will Your Credits Transfer?

We know that what you achieved before you arrived at OHIO matters. That’s why ÌìÌÃÄñÏÈÉú recognizes several kinds of transferable credits, including those from other institutions, dual enrollment and credit by examination.  Whether you’re a new first-year student or a transfer student, OHIO evaluates your earned credits to ensure you’re on track for an on-time, on-plan graduation.

In general, college level courses taken at a Council for Higher Education (CHEA) recognized regionally accredited institution will transfer to ÌìÌÃÄñÏÈÉú with a grade of "D-" or better.

    Credit from Another Institution


    ÌìÌÃÄñÏÈÉú nurtures partnerships with community colleges throughout the region and country. You can build on your previous coursework and associate degree by taking courses from ÌìÌÃÄñÏÈÉú and your community college to complete your bachelor's degree at OHIO.

    Credit by Examination


    ÌìÌÃÄñÏÈÉú recognizes certain credits by exam, including AP, IB, CLEP, and select international tests.

    Career-Technical Credit (CT)2


    Students who successfully complete specified high school technical programs may be eligible to have technical credit transfer to Ohio public colleges and universities.

    Credit for Armed Forces Courses


    Courses taken while enlisted in the armed forces will in most cases earn you ÌìÌÃÄñÏÈÉú credit.

    Prior Learning Assessment


    In certain instances, you may be awarded transfer credit based on prior life experiences.

Transferring Credit as a First-Year Student 

When you apply to ÌìÌÃÄñÏÈÉú as a first-year student with general education transfer credits, you may be able to graduate sooner – meaning, you can save time and money. You also have the opportunity to add a second major, minor or certificate, study abroad or away, complete an internship or conduct in-depth research. 

Earn College Credit During High School

 Whether you’re participating in a dual enrollment program such as College Credit Plus or taking accelerated coursework at your high school, we offer a pathway to bring that earned credit to OHIO. The following courses generally transfer: 

  • Dual enrollment credits in college-level courses completed at a Council for Higher Education (CHEA) recognized regionally accredited institution with a grade of D- or better.
  • Advanced Placement exam score of 3 or higher.
  • International Baccalaureate score of 5 or higher on the Higher-Level exam. 

Connect With Your High School Counselor

Your high school counselor is your best resource to help you determine what credits earned in high school may be transferrable. To receive transfer credit for this coursework request that official transcripts and test scores be sent directly from the awarding institution or testing agency to:

View Your Transfer Credit Report 

After you are admitted to ÌìÌÃÄñÏÈÉú and submit official transcripts or scores from AP or IB exams, you will receive a transfer credit report from ÌìÌÃÄñÏÈÉú in seven to 10 business days. When you enroll at ÌìÌÃÄñÏÈÉú, your academic advisor will help you build a schedule that allows you to graduate on time and on plan toward your future goals.

  • Transfer Credit Evaluation Services

    The Transfer Credit Evaluation team determines how your undergraduate coursework completed at other colleges and universities will transfer to ÌìÌÃÄñÏÈÉú.

Reverse Transfer

ÌìÌÃÄñÏÈÉú is an active partner in reverse transfer initiatives, whereby a student who earned credits that satisfied residency requirements at a community college, did not earn their associate degree, and subsequently transferred to a four-year institution, can be awarded an associate degree.
