Practicum Grading, Attendance and Hour Policy

  • Students receive course credit for clinical practicum. If a student does not complete all clinical practicum requirements as outlined in the syllabus or meet the attendance or hour requirements outlined below, the course grade will be documented as 鈥渋ncomplete - I鈥 until all requirements are successfully completed. This may entail completing requirements outside the regularly scheduled semester. All requirements must be completed within the two weeks of the next enrolled semester. If unsuccessful, the grade converts to an 鈥淔鈥 and the student will be required to repeat the clinical practicum. This will delay progress in the program including graduation. View OHIO's grading policy.
  • The timeline or clinical placement may be subject to change based on placement availability, enrollment in the joint AuD/PhD program and the student鈥檚 progress over the course of the program (See the Support Plan for Students At Risk for Inadequate Clinical Performance; aka: At Risk Policy).
  • Students must always follow the .
  • Students may not be absent from a clinical placement for class projects/assignments, studying, vacation, weddings, or other non-related audiology activities or events.
  • When absent or requesting an absence, students must notify the primary preceptor and the instructor of record/ DCE in writing and prior to the event when possible. Supporting documentation may be requested or required.

These can be completed prior to entering the AuD program or during fall semester Year 1. Students must provide signed documentation along with the preceptor鈥檚 license and ASHA CCCs numbers. Letterhead is preferred.

To meet CAA accreditation and AuD program requirement students must complete the equivalency of a 12-month fulltime supervised clinical experience and obtain 1,820 clinical hours under a state licensed audiologist over the course of the 4-year AuD program. These experiences will be acquired through the following opportunities:

Clinical Simulations

  • These will be assigned through clinical practicum and various didactic courses. Clinical simulations can account for 10% of the student鈥檚 total supervised clinical experience (see Clinical Simulation section for more information).

Hearing, Speech and Language Clinic (HSLC) (~5 semesters)
